Quick Tips—Snowboard Bindings

Pick your boots first based on comfort and riding style. Then choose bindings that will work best with your boots.

  • Strap Bindings—Strap bindings have two adjustable ratchet straps and a small, medium or large highback. These bindings are great for all types of riders. Freestylers tend to favor strap bindings with a lower back for more flexibility and mobility. Freeriders should get a taller highback for more support. The back of the binding shouldn't be higher than the top of your boot.

  • Step-In Bindings—Step-in bindings are boot-specific. With Clicker® bindings, compatible boots have a cleat on the sole that clips into the binding plate. Burton SI bindings clip into the sides of compatible boots. Rossignol SIS bindings clip into a bar that runs across the bottom of compatible boots. Highback step-ins can be used with a more flexible boot and are gaining popularity.

  • Plate Bindings—Most often found on alpine-style racing boards, plate bindings are paired with rigid boots that resemble ski boots. These bindings are best for racers, or those who just want to go really, really fast.

Tip—When mounting your bindings, consider stance width, stance angle and centering.
