Division Profiles:

Adventures

REI Adventures, REI's travel division, operates trips that take small groups of travelers to scenic destinations throughout the world, with an emphasis on active participation, traveler safety, group camaraderie, and fun. REI Adventures offers bicycling, camping, hiking, kayaking, mountaineering and trekking trips, as well as adventure cruises and multi-sport adventures. Options are provided for active travelers by offering trips with various levels of difficulty, ranging from easy to strenuous. Read more about REI Adventures.

Corporate Services

Corporate Services is responsible for providing the various essentials that keep REI Headquarters running smoothly. This includes managing the copy center, the Summit Cafe, Headquarters reception desks, building maintenance, space planning, campus expansion needs, and mail services.

Finance & Accounting

The Finance division's primary roles are to safeguard the company's assets and ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial results. Key departments include accounts payable, G/L accounting, inventory, treasury, financial analysis, sales audit, loss prevention, payroll and tax.

Human Resources

The Human Resources team is committed to enhancing REI's tradition of being one of the best places to work by providing quality programs, services and consulting that allow us to attract, develop and reward employees. Services and programs are provided in the areas of staffing, employee relations, learning and development, total compensation, and retail human resources.

Information Technology

The goal of Information Technology (IT) is to create and maintain a technology infrastructure that supports REI's current and future needs. The IT team strives to provide accurate, timely and affordable information and services related to REI systems and technology to our internal and external customers. The IT team is responsible for all aspects of selecting, implementing, and supporting technology, including application development and support, systems planning and architecture, project management, voice and data networks, personal computing, and the Help Desk.

Purchasing

The Purchasing department is responsible for providing all aspects of negotiating, sourcing and contracting for non-merchandise products and services. Helping all internal groups meet and exceed expense and capital-related goals and works as an REI liaison with external vendors is a key function of this team. As a part of the REI Finance group, the Purchasing department works closely with Legal, Finance and all internal business groups to help REI meet its objectives for sustainability and diversification.

Marketing

Marketing's primary purpose is to communicate with REI's core and new customers to drive traffic and sales to all of REI's channels. We deliver this by working cross-divisionally to develop and execute REI's strategic plan; conduct market and customer research, profitability and analysis; and develop marketing strategies and materials such as direct mail marketing, advertising, promotions, and visual merchandising. Marketing also has responsibility for the development and delivery of consistent and appropriate communication of REI's brand message with its members, customers, employees and business partners.

Merchandising

The Merchandising Department contributes to REI's success through all aspects of product management, from the initial buys to store assortments, promotions and pricing, inventory management, vendor management and the design, development and sourcing of our own products, REI Gear and Apparel. The Merchandising team works cross-divisionally to develop our yearly business plan, including identifying product growth categories and driving our sales based on trends and marketing conditions.

Legal

The Legal Department acts as legal advisor to the Board of Directors, the Leadership Team, and other employees of REI. In addition, the department identifies and assesses legal risk, provides and manages the provision of legal services for the company, and controls the cost associated with risk and services.

Online/Multichannel Programs

The Online/Multichannel Programs group creates engaging experiences and easy-to-use features on our websites REI.com and REI-OUTLET.com, as well as the REI Adventures website, in order to grow web sales, educate our members and customers, and support the REI brand. Online works closely with our Merchandising team to highlight products online and manages all online marketing programs. We also use our web capabilities to support our other lines of business-retail and phone.

Public Affairs

The Public Affairs department leverages REI's unique corporate purpose, values and structure to build and manage a lasting, positive reputation and successful business based on an affirmative company culture, a respect for our communities, and a full understanding of our stakeholders' diverse wants and views. Public Affairs works strategically with colleagues cross-divisionally to provide counsel and to carry out its role through a variety of functions including: corporate communications, government affairs, employee communications, community relations, corporate giving, corporate social responsibility, media relations, and lines of business public relations.

Retail Administration

Retail Administration provides company direction, develops the Retail Long- Range Divisional Plan, executes initiatives for future growth of stores, and supports stores with operational policies and procedures, training and process improvement. This team is responsible for training of REI's new stores, leveraging technology in our retail stores, promoting online/retail synergies, and helping coordinate cross-divisional growth strategies with Marketing and Merchandising. Retail business development focuses on creating and leveraging new retail opportunities within our stores and with developing more efficient ways of running our retail business. Corporate & Group Sales is also part of the Retail Administration team and serves our business and professional customers by providing personalization and quantity discounts.

Real Estate/Store Development

The Real Estate team researches markets, determines potential sales and profitability on specific sites, purchases and leases property/buildings, designs new buildings and creates plans to remodel existing ones, works with consultants and outside architects, handles legal matters, and executes the necessary legal documents. The Store Development team manages construction projects of remodels or new stores, builds fixtures for new and remodeled stores using our fully owned fixture shop (located in Renton, WA), creates floor layouts, and sets up stores with fixtures.
