REI Outdoor School offers students of all experience levels the opportunity to learn new activities or brush up their skills. Our experienced instructors teach the basics of activities such as kayaking, camping, snow sports, digital photography and more. For anyone wanting to learn more and gain confidence in their outdoor skills, our classes and outings are great places to start.
REI Outdoor Schools are located in major metropolitan areas across the country, including San Diego, San Francisco, Philadelphia, New England, Sierra, Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles.

Outdoor School Instructor
The REI Outdoor School Instructor is responsible for leading REI Outdoor School programs for REI customers. Instructors teach in-store classes and conduct programs in the field. They are responsible for the delivery of class content and the safety of all participants in the field while providing excellent customer service. Outdoor School applicants must be highly competent in course content and skilled in demonstrating their designated activity or sport. They will also have proven ability in coaching large groups of people and leading instructional events.
Outdoor School Senior Instructor
The REI Outdoor School Senior Instructor is responsible for leading REI Outdoor School programs for REI customers. Senior instructors teach in-store classes and conduct programs in the field. They are responsible for the delivery of class content and the safety of all participants in the field while providing excellent customer service. Senior instructors maintain equipment and coordinate outing logistics prior to field day. Senior instructors also act as mentors to outdoor school instructors. Outdoor School applicants must be highly competent in course content and skilled in demonstrating their designated activity or sport. They will also have proven ability in coaching large groups of people and leading instructional events. They will also have demonstrated administrative and computer skills.
