Wise River, MT
A nearly 9,000-foot-high lake in the shadows of Torrey and Tweedy Mountains. Looking south across the lake, you can see the ragged igneous hump of Torrey Mountain, 11,147 feet high. Behind to the northeast are the shredded granite cliffs and uttresses of Tweedy Mountain, 11,154 feet high. Granite towers stand on the divide between Tweedy and Torrey, west of Torrey. If you decide to climb around on the large rockslide between Torrey Mountain and the lake, note that this slide shifted dramatically in 1981 and may still be unstable. Avoid the steep pitches of rubble, which will start to slide under your weight.
