This rough trail leads to Spruce Lake, a little-known tarn located just 2 air miles southwest of Bear Creek Pass. Hikers disinclined to share the likes of Fish and Coquina lakes with dozens of other people should instead consider a trip to this decidedly out-of-the-way destination. The trail’s poor condition accounts for its generally light use—much of the route suffers from benign neglect, with flooded tread and blowdowns being frequent obstacles along the way. It is slow going. Highlights: A very rough trail to a seldom-visited subalpine lake.
