Berthed in the evening shade of 8,984-foot Castle Crag, the lakes of Sheafman Creek reside in relative anonymity 10 miles northwest of Hamilton. The entire trail is pack-animal accessible and well suited for either a full day excursion or an easy overnight trip. In fact, the only real hazards are four wet crossings of Sheafman Creek; these fords remain negotiable during spells of high water, although in late June the current is swift and frigid enough to discourage any misstep. Highlights: Three high mountain lakes with splendid scenery and their own individual allure.
