A quick weekend trip with easy access off Interstate 90, the 3-mile trail to Hub Lake begins as a pleasant stroll through a grove of ancient cedars. Then it does some serious climbing as it follows Ward Creek and crosses other small creeks to a couple of small campsites at the lake. Hikers have the options of following the trail farther, climbing to excellent viewpoints at Ward or Eagle Peaks.
