Swan Lake, MT
This route is very primitive indeed. It follows the bed of an old trail, no longer maintained, to a former fire lookout on Pot Mountain. Contrary to some maps, no trail ever existed beyond this point, and it is a tough scramble over some extremely steep pitches to reach the pass into Dolly Varden Creek. This latter part of the route is quite dangerous and should be attempted only by experts that possess some rock climbing skills. The scenery along this ridgeline route is breathtaking, featuring excellent views of Silvertip and Pentagon Mountains, as well as seldom-seen Pot and Shadow lakes.
