This trail provides a moderate day hike through the Dearborn River Canyon, and also serves as one of the primary entrances to the eastern side of the Scapegoat Wilderness. The trail follows a closed gravel road through private land for the first mile. Travelers are asked to stay strictly on the trail as it crosses private land in order to ensure that this access corridor will remain open in the future. After crossing the Dearborn River via a pack bridge, the trail climbs uphill, beneath the rocky brow of Steamboat Mountain. Across the river, the tilted cliffs of the Twin Buttes have been laid bare by the erosive force of the river. Reaching a high point, the trail turns southwest, crossing the forest boundary as it works its way across the sparsely wooded slopes overlooking the river.
