Hooper Road Park
Hooper Road lies on the outskirts of Baton Rouge near the airport. One of the nicest surprises of trails in the Deep South comes from finding a great route tucked into a metropolitan area. This is the case with Hooper Road Park. Primarily a collection of ball fields adjoining a subdivision, the park has five to ten miles of technical single-track circling hither and yon, following creeks and burrowing into forests. Although no motorized vehicles are allowed on this narrow pathway, it suffers from a combination of heavy use and wet track, which wants to revert to its origin as a "pure mudhole." As a result, many potholes and ruts lie in wait for the chance to send out gravity waves.
