The Cumberland Basin
A day hike on a wilderness route to a high alpine basin. This forgotten trail follows Middle Brush Creek to a high basin below the spectacular crags of Castle Peak. Although it no longer receives official maintenance and is brushy in places, experienced hikers should be able to follow the old trail without much difficulty. This route is perhaps the only trail that offers good views of Castle Peak, the tallest and certainly one of the most impressive summits in the Maroon Bells–Snowmass Wilderness.
