South Mesa / Big Bluestem / Towhee
Boulder Open Space parks preserve roughly 27,000 acres for the enjoyment of the outdoor enthusiast. Much of this open space contains hiking trails, such as the popular Mesa Trail. For a leisurely 3.7-mile wildflower hike, follow the South Mesa/Big Bluestem/Towhee loop along the base of the Flatirons. Passing through the transition zone, the three-trail loop may turn up nearly 80 wildflower species at peak bloom. Wildflower alert: A cornucopia of nearly 80 wildflowers at peak bloom.
