South Boulder Peak and Bear Mountain Trail
Boulder, CO

South Boulder Peak and Bear Mountain Trail
This hike is as challenging as any in the high country, but Boulder is famous for rugged and tough climbs and has a population that prides itself on fostering mountaineering traditions. While many locals are drawn to the Chautauqua Park and the diehards rock-climb on the Flatirons or in nearby Eldorado Canyon, fine and strenuous hiking is readily available in south Boulder where, once you have penetrated into one of the steep canyons, there are fewer trail users. Even better, most of the hike is along a heavily shaded trail that your dog will appreciate despite the steep terrain.
