Ptarmigan Lake
The hike to Ptarmigan Lake winds through spruce-fir forest, gently climbing into an area of beautiful subalpine meadows dotted with tarns and little lakes. For flower aficionados the meadows show off beautiful wildflowers in July. After a little climb up the side of a cirque, you arrive at crystal clear Ptarmigan Lake. Another 0.3 miles leads to a saddle with a view down into South Cottonwood Creek. This hike travels above treeline, so if the weather is threatening a thunderstorm, stay at the lower lakes.
