Penitente Canyon
Since its discovery by rock climbers in 1985, Penitente Canyon has been visited by technical scramblers from as far away as Europe, Africa, and South America. Although relatively shallow, Penitente Canyon is enclosed by sheer cliff faces nearly 100 feet tall. Other places, such as the area above the canyon’s rim to the west, feature unusual rock formations and outcrops. For hikers, a short and easy trail links both areas to create an interesting excursion.
