Buena Vista, CO
This hard-to-reach trail follows the Lake Fork of Clear Creek. The late snowmelt and abundant groundwater that characterize this north-facing basin lead to a vibrant display of wildflowers that lingers late into summer. The route then climbs up through the vast tundra at the base of Emerald Peak and drops over the Continental Divide to reach Pear Lake. This hike can be accomplished in a single day if you have the right vehicle to get to the trailhead. Many visitors choose to park at Clear Creek and hike the rather scenic access road, making an overnighter out of the trip. The vehicle ford of Clear Creek is not passable until the spring runoff has subsided, blocking access to this trail for all travelers until midsummer.
