Mount Sherman Summit Trail – Gemini Peak – Dyer Mountain Traverse

A trip to Sherman is likely to include more than summiting the 14er. The twisted mine ruins and old Leavick mill site are sure to stir the imaginations of those interested in Colorado’s mining history, and the saddle between Sherman and Sheridan is the perfect place to view Colorado’s two highest mountains, Mount Elbert and Mount Massive. Sherman is generally considered the easiest of the 14ers to climb, making it a good first 14er for the uninitiated. For more experienced hikers, the option to link several mountains is irresistible; the two additional peaks on the main route for this hike go north, while the optional three traverse south. From the parking area, you can view the amazing glacial cirque on Horseshoe Mountain. The marking is natural, despite its resemblance to a Colorado strip mine.
