McCullough Gulch / Quandary Falls
With the formidable mass of 14,265-foot Quandary Peak dominating the skyline to the south and 13,998-foot Pacific Peak rearing west and northwest, mountains play a stirring role in the McCullough Gulch hike. One of the most beautiful cascades—a study in black rock and white water—is near the end of trek, and in between along the trail, wildflowers are tossed like festive confetti. The trail follows an old road on a steady ascent to an off-limits mining claim and its attendant cabin. The grade increases—as do the wildflowers— on the way to kinetic Quandary Falls. Wildflower Alert: On this trail you’ll experience a wildflower welcome to beautiful cascading falls beneath 14,265-foot Quandary Peak.
