[...] this is the only product that I ever had to return for a refund. Even then, I hoped it would be to just trade for another pair. But I found every pair on the rack to have the same problem. The snap in front, above the fly/zipper, is VERY weak. One can easily flick it open with one finger. Someone in the design department must have suspected that this would be a problem, as the snap has a small bit of Velcro around it for added support. Too little though for an active mountain biker. The waist tightening strap actually adds to the problem, because it does not go all the way around the waistline of the shorts to provide extra support for the snap. Instead, as one pulls on the side strap to tighten the waistline, the snap has more pressure to release on it. This pressure would be the same if your waistline was 28 inches or 42 inches. If not for this MAJOR WEAKNESS, I really like the design of the shorts, the pocket placement, and security. While looking at at possible replacement in my local REI store, I noticed that one brand uses a snap with a sliding slot to secure the front above the fly. The pressure on the waistline to expand as the rider exhales actually makes the fastener grip tighter, rather than pop loose. With that sort of fastener, these shorts would be be perfect.

Having read the other reviews I decided to go ahead and buy these and have them fixed. On arrival, I tried them on and the snap is totally useless! I took them to a shoe repair shop and the man took about 3 minutes to replace the snap with one that is very strong and charged me [$]. Now I have a good pair of riding shorts that aren't embarrassing to wear into a store (lets face it, mens riding pants are embarrassing!)and yet have the padding and comfort for riding. I hope this helps.

These are excellent shorts. They are very comfortable, fit well, perform well. Better yet, these fit better than any other brand I've tried, and they were the least expensive. If I had to complain, I would agree with one reviewer who didn't like the snap and waist belt system, but it's not an issue at all on the trails.

Great shorts - EXCEPT THE SNAP. Doesn't work for long, period. Within a few rides these were in a drawer, waiting for a chance to remove that cr*p snap and put a good closure there.
Highly recommended (if you don't mind repairing a brand new item before you use it).

I had no idea bike shorts could look good and be functional. The shorts are very comfortable and not obscene.

These are great shorts! Comfortable for the most part (nothing you can't get used too). They look great, and the zippered side and back pockets are nice too. My only gripe is the one waist adjuster. It would really benefit if it had two adjusters (one on each side of the waist). I find myself tightening the adjuster quite a bit and then I have a bunch of extra hanging off my side. The strap also broke the at the seam where it is anchor sewn on the front to the left of the button. So yea, other than some minor fit issues around the waist (which are easy to get used to or fix if you know how to sew) these are awesome shorts for [$]

These are a great set of bike shorts, super comfy with a great fit and feel. Only took one ride to break in the new shorts and the sale price can't be beat.

Here's an easy fix to the loose snap problem: one whack w/ a hammer to flatten out the "bulb" of the snap (male side). This flattens it out wider and makes the snap much tighter. Another trick: Using some pliers, rotate the other side of the snap (female side) so that the two parallel wires in the hole are parallel to the waist band. i.e. horizontal. This will also make the snap harder to unsnap along the horizontal axis (and easier to unsnap in the vertical direction). Feel free to experiment w/ rotating it 90deg. though. Hope this helps.
As mentioned many times, I also like the shorts except for the snap.

Best deal for a novice just getting into cycling, but as others have mentioned, you will need to upgrade the snap on these shorts. I took advantage of the pre-Christmas 20% off sale, so paying a little extra to improve the snap is not a problem. When paying [$] for a pair of shorts, however, I do not believe one should have to "improve" anything.

Cycling is what I do nowadays for exercise. I try to ride daily as far as I can go in 30 minutes and try to hit the trails a couple times a year.
I like these shorts but hate the snap. It comes loose way too easy. I may have a middle-aged stomach but I'm not that fat. They need to redesign the snap.
