Introduction to Lead Rock Climbing Class

Description: Want to become a lead climber? Then this is what you've been waiting for! This field outing is designed for those who have experience rock climbing and building top-rope anchors, and are ready to progress to lead climbing. We'll teach you how to lead belay, protect from a leader fall, manage your rope and rack, clip gear, and plan your route, all from the safety of a mock lead. REI Outdoor School will provide all rock climbing gear. Participation in the following courses or similar experience required: Introduction to Outdoor Rock Climbing, Rock Climbing Anchors Concepts, and Artificial Climbing Anchors (for venues requiring traditional gear placement).

Skills you'll learn:

To refine climbing technique including rope management, route finding, efficient climbing movement, and fundamentals of safety. To learn to lead climb and lead belay while on top rope, all from the safety of a mock lead.
