About Nike

Before Nike became a global sports shoe and apparel superpower, founders Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight were just college track buddies experimenting with shoe sole inventions for better traction on their school’s track surface. Their innovative shoe solutions soon lead to the birth of the Nike brand in 1972.

Aptly named after the Greek goddess of victory, the Oregon-based company grew into a forerunning sports outfitter for both world-class athletes and the active everyman.

Their early “word-of-foot” advertising helped catapult their high-performance athletic shoes into infectious popularity. Nike’s running, cross-training and casual sports shoes have remained favorites for active men and women.
