Rock Climbing the Gunks

New York's Shawangunks, or "Gunks", are a world class top rock climbing destination in North America! These famous crags are located only 90 miles from the heart of the big city and provide a truly legendary climbing getaway! Our three day rock climbing program is well suited for all ability levels as the route options are diverse and seemingly limitless. Our AMGA certified mountain guides will provide a wide range of instruction, from equipment and proper usage to climbing techniques, belaying, rappelling as well as general climbing skills and considerations for experiencing all that rock climbing has to offer. In addition to technical instruction our 4:1 guide to client ratio will allow for close instruction and supervision while spending the vast majority of your weekend on the rock climbing!! After two full days of climbing in "The Gunks" you will know why this place is considered one of the premiere climbing destinations in the country.

Important Notice: Day 1 is the day you should plan to arrive at the meeting point for the trip. This may require departing your hometown one or more days in advance.

Rock Climbing the Gunks Itinerary:

This trip is rated Moderate [3] as we plan to climb for 4-6 hours per day and will have to hike a short distance from the parking area to where the climbs are located each day. To maximize your enjoyment of the trip and to avoid sore muscles, we suggest that you engage in a regular exercise regimen beginning at least three months prior to your departure. Most important to your enjoyment of the trip is your overall fitness level.
