REI Adventures strongly encourages all trip members to purchase travel insurance. Each season, a handful of clients have to cancel their trips at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. Situations such as canceled or delayed flights that prevent reaching the departure point on time or twisting an ankle before a strenuous hiking trip are real possibilities. Trip cancellation insurance can save you the cost of your trip.

In addition, travel insurance provides coverage for emergency medical transportation and evacuation. On many of our trips, the nearest medical facility is many miles away. If you become ill or injured and have to be evacuated or transported from a remote region to a medical facility, this will be covered. For adventure travel these two benefits alone justify the expense.

We highly recommend purchasing the Travel Plus supplemental coverage provided by Travelex for trips taken with REI Adventures. The policy has many other benefits, so please review the plan information carefully.

If you would like to take advantage of the Travelex pre-existing condition waiver, keep in mind that the waiver is only valid if your protection plan is purchased within 21 days of the date your initial trip deposit is processed.
