Waste Methodology
In 2008, we gathered data for our entire operations on the amount of waste we produce, the percentage we recycled and which materials make up our waste stream. This expanded our scope from our 2006 and 2007 reporting and expanded our baseline to measure progress in the coming years. Our retail data was compiled through a collaborative research project with graduate students in sustainable business from the Bainbridge Graduate Institute. In 2008, we expanded on this work to continue to refine our estimations for times when we can’t get accurate data.
Note: The waste charts and table were updated on October 6, 2009 to correct an error in overstating retail construction waste. The initial data was partially double counted for the 2008 calendar year.
